Great Brook School Family and Consumer Science teacher Becky Denslow hosted 18 educators from around New England in her classroom on Nov. 22 for a maple cooking class.

Participants spent the day learning how to use maple syrup in various recipes and how to infuse it into their own teaching. Denslow is part of a group of New Hampshire educators participating in the โ€œMaple AGsplorationโ€ consortium connected to New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroomย and the UNH 4H extension.

The goal is to bring knowledge and skills about maple syrup to students.

โ€œFrom maple production to maple usage, we want to inspire the public to see that maple production is doable and is available to all,โ€ Denslow said.

Led by Denslow, Great Brook School will host a celebration centered around maple in the spring. Each advisory has its own tree the students keep track of, and will then see its sap boil into syrup on Great Brook Schoolโ€™s new evaporator, paid for through the AGsploration program.

โ€œItโ€™s really exciting,โ€ Denslow said. โ€œIโ€™ve always loved the process of making maple syrup, and itโ€™s very rewarding bringing that knowledge to the next generation.โ€
