Peterborough, NH – William Albert Bean, Jr., 79, of Peterborough, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 27, 1946, in Hillside, N.J., he was the son of William A. Bean, Sr. and Mildred Shaeffer Bean.
Mr. Bean proudly served in the U.S. Air National Guard at Pease Air Base and later graduated from the University of New Hampshire with degrees in forestry and land surveying. He was a respected member of the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association, serving as president from 1984 to 1985, and represented New Hampshire as a delegate to the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping. He also served on the New Hampshire Board of Licensure and contributed to the Benchmark publication.
On Oct. 28, 1978, he married Lisa (Samson) Bean, with whom he shared more than four decades of marriage. He was a devoted father to Gretel McDaniel and Ethan Bean, and is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Hillsgrove, and her husband, Jim.
Mr. Bean found joy in time spent at his camp in Barnstead, where he enjoyed boating, sailing and gathering with family and friends. He also loved snowmobiling, outdoor work and his cherished 1970 Pontiac GTO.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, 19 Grove St., Peterborough. Light refreshments will be served.
