“Different Ships, Same Boat,” a multimedia performance blending spoken word, original music and storytelling, will be presented Saturday, June 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Amato Center for Performing Arts, 56 Mont Vernon St., Milford.

The show was brought to the community through the efforts of former state Sen. Melanie Levesque. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit local charitable organizations. Through a partnership with Open Democracy, all ticket and sponsorship purchases are tax-deductible.

The performance features Massachusetts Poet Laureate Regie Gibson, a former National Poetry Slam champion, and composer and story-catcher Guy Mendilow. Together, they weave stories and voices from communities across the United States, including rural towns, urban neighborhoods and ports of entry.

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, organizers say the performance focuses on the common experiences that connect Americans rather than the differences that divide them.

Organizers describe the event as an opportunity for audiences to reflect on shared values and experiences through art, music and storytelling.

Tickets are available through the Amato Center at amatocenter.org.
