American Legion Peterborough Post 5 will hold a Flag Day ceremony for the respectful retirement of worn and damaged American flags at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 14.

The ceremony will take place near the gazebo behind the Peterborough Diner. Community members are invited to bring retired United States flags for proper disposal.

According to American Legion guidelines, retired flags should be respectfully destroyed, typically through burning. Organizers expect approximately 1,500 flags to be retired during the ceremony.

The event is open to the public and is being held in observance of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.
