State Rep. Jim Creighton announced he is running for the New Hampshire Senate seat representing District 8.

Creighton, a Republican who has represented Hillsborough and Antrim in the New Hampshire House for the past six years, said his priorities include opposing an income or sales tax, addressing rising property taxes and supporting environmental stewardship.

The District 8 seat is currently held by Republican Sen. Ruth Ward, who is retiring. The district includes Acworth, Antrim, Bennington, Charlestown, Claremont, Croydon, Deering, Dunbarton, Francestown, Gilsum, Langdon, Lempster, Marlow, Newport, Stoddard, Sunapee, Unity, Washington, Weare and Windsor.

In announcing his candidacy, Creighton praised Wardโ€™s service and said he would work to build on her legacy if elected.

Creighton, a longtime member of the U.S. Army, said he plans to spend the coming months meeting with voters throughout the district ahead of the election.
