Barbara Jo Kingsley’s artwork will be on display throughout August at The Optimist Café, 16 Colls Farm Road, Jaffrey.

An artist talk will take place Thursday, Aug. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., where Kingsley will discuss her inspirations, serigraph (silk screen) techniques and stencil-based painting methods.

Influenced by abstract artists such as Kandinsky, Delaunay and Vasarely, Kingsley explores geometric forms, optical illusions and color. She describes her work as an expression of “the lyrical music of color” and the “human connection to the universe.”

Kingsley holds a BFA from Michigan State University and an MFA from Eastern Michigan University. She has lived in Japan, the Navajo Nation and Long Island before settling in Peterborough in 2017. Her work has appeared at local venues, including the Healing Arts Gallery at MCH and the Jaffrey Civic Center.

The Optimist Café is open Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, go to theoptimistcafe.com.
