I’ve just started reading a book about ways to restore civility to our society. Being civil is much more than being polite. According to the author, being civil means recognizing and respecting common humanity, the fundamental personhood and inherent dignity of other human beings.
This got me thinking about the current state of politics, and the lack of civility on display from many Republicans as exhibited by their rhetoric and their support of restrictive laws related to women’s health care and LGBTQ+ rights, among other things. Thankfully, we have better choices this election.
I have had the privilege of meeting David Trumble, and hearing him speak on several occasions. David is a candidate for New Hampshire Senate in District 8. I am struck by his passion and by his in-depth understanding of the issues that face us in New Hampshire. David believes in a New Hampshire built on respect. His positions on a variety of issues support that philosophy. He will work to find a way to fully fund public schools and is a strong advocate for protecting the environment. David supports protecting LGBTQ+ rights and guaranteed access to reproductive health care. I believe he has a genuine desire to work with others to find reasonable solutions to these issues. His ideas offer a sense of decency and civility towards all people. He will represent the citizens of District 8 in a respectful, dignified and civil manner.
Please join me in supporting David Trumble in November.
