On Sunday, May 1, at noon, Plowshare Farm at 32 Whitney Drive in Greenfield will be the New Hampshire venue of the inaugural Walk for Camphill.
Along with other sites across the United States and Canada, the walk at Plowshare will raise awareness about the community-building work of the Camphill movement and raise funds for the Camphill Foundation.
The Camphill movement was born in 1940 when a group of doctors, teachers and social workers fleeing Nazi-occupied Europe formed the first community, focused on curative education for children with developmental disabilities, at Camphill House, just outside Aberdeen, Scotland. Over the past 80 years, the movement has grown to include more than 120 communities across more than 20 countries, including about 15 in North America.
The mission of the Camphill Foundation is to grow, strengthen and safeguard the Camphill movement in North America. The foundation’s grants help increase the number of communities and initiatives, the number of people served and the number of coworkers serving in Camphill communities.
Sunday’s walk will also raise awareness about the higher education programs in the field of inclusive social development offered by the Camphill Academy. The academy provides learning intended to help students contribute to the healing of individuals, society and the earth. The academy is an accredited college program with campuses in North America, including Plowshare.
Information on the walk is available at plowsharefarm.org.
