Students, staff and parent volunteers from Francestown Elementary School and Pierce School in Bennington came together for a field day on Thursday at ConVal High School, with volunteers from Peterborough Kiwanis Club manning the grill to cook lunch.

Melinda Adams, a Pierce School parent and Kiwanis volunteer, helped organize the barbecue for students.

“Our principal, who came from FES, had the idea to get the two schools together for field day, and I thought it would be great if someone could do a cookout for the kids,” Adams said. “I’m in the Peterborough Kiwanis Club, so I asked if our group could help out, and here we are.”

Twelve groups of eight children participated in games including three-legged races, sponge races, gaga ball, small-scale volleyball, child-scale “golf” and a parachute crawl.

Adult volunteers sported green T-shirts with a lion, Francestown’s mascot, and a bear, Pierce School’s mascot, touching noses.
