The Francestown Transfer Station has reopened its swap shop. The transfer station is also doing away with “summer hours” due to lack of use, and is re-enforcing its checks-only policy, Town Administrator Jamie Pike said Tuesday.

The Swap Shop had closed due to COVID-19 concerns, but is reopening on a 90-day probationary basis with strict guidelines in place, according to a press release from the town. Only two people are allowed in the room at a time, and no electronics, items with broken or missing pieces, liquids, paints, or stains are permitted.

Residents must keep the area tidy as attendants are no longer able to spend hours organizing and dumping unwanted donations. Donors should ask themselves if they would buy their donated item in its present condition, and ask an attendant if unsure of its suitability. Residents with lots of items to give away should bring in a couple per week to avoid swamping the inventory, according to the release.

Cash will not be accepted for any payment at the Transfer Station except for fluorescent light disposal, at six cents a foot or 50 cents a bulb.

The Transfer Station remains open on Wednesdays from 1 to 6 p.m., Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stickers for Transfer Station use are available at the Town Clerk’s office. Contact Pike at the Selectmen’s office or email Becky Moul at unekeone@comcast.net for more information.
