A weather-related issue with a recently chip sealed road in Dublin caused damage to approximately seven cars, but the paving company that did the work will foot the bills, according to town officials.

Town Administrator Sherry Miller said Tuesday that selectmen met with Allstate Paving Company on Monday to discuss the issue, which involved oil seeping to the surface of Upper Jaffrey Road.

โ€œItโ€™s the same chip sealing weโ€™ve always done,โ€ said Miller, who said rain followed by extreme heat is believed to have caused the issue.ย

Chip sealing is a surface treatmentย process that combines a layer or layers of asphalt with aggregate materials to help provide a skid-resistant surface, fillย micro-cracks, renews aging surfaces, and seals the existing road.ย

Road agent Roger Trempe said chip sealingย had occurred on three dates โ€“ย June 1, 5, and 6 โ€“ย with June 5 being the date of the โ€œbig issue.โ€

Trempeย said the townโ€™s highway department was quick to put down some sand to stop the oil from being an issue but approximately seven cars were damaged.ย

Miller said damageย to the vehiclesย mostly dealt with oil that had to be specially cleaned off the paint.ย
