Meadows and Old Lyme will be the topics of discussion when two authors visit the Toadstool Bookshop on Saturday.

For 14 years Gordon Russell has kept a journal of his observations of the 100-acre New Boston marsh known as the Great Meadow. He will be at the bookstore at 11 a.m. to sign and discuss โ€œWatching Great Meadow.โ€

Gathered in this book are a collection of his daily observations accompanied by color photos of the plants and animal life of the marsh. Russell has taught environmental studies for many years and has been instrumental in the conservation of more than 13,000 acres.

At 2 p.m. Sydney Williams will talk about his new book โ€œNotes from Old Lyme,โ€ a collection of a variety of his writings over the past 15 years from his home in Old Lyme. This is a place where he has found the time and the place to reflect, away from โ€œour complex, continuous, electronically connected world.โ€

โ€œThese essays represent moments I have taken away from consuming life to, in fact, enjoy its small pleasures โ€” at times alone but most often with family and friends.โ€ Williams is a native of Peterborough and is also the author of โ€œOne Manโ€™s Family: Growing Up in Peterborough.โ€

Both authors are published by Bauhan Publishers of Peterborough.

These events are free and all are welcome.
