The Jaffrey Select Board has no desire to return to a hand count vote for November’s presidential election.

Resident Deb Sumner met with the board Monday, requesting that the town stop using the vote counting machine. Sumner said the machine was able to be hacked and should not be used without hand counting select elections to ensure accuracy.

“If we choose not to support checking the machine with hand counts, then we should return entirely to hand counts,” said Sumner.

The board opted to stay with the voting machine, as there was no evidence provided by Sumner that showed fraud or tampering has taken place.

Boy Scout Stephen Turilli was given the Select Board’s blessing to help the fire department renumber Forest Park as a part of his Eagle Scout project. The project will help emergency personnel better find homes in the area, according to Fire Chief David Chamberlain.

In addition to renumbering each home, Turilli will raise funds to create two welcome signs and new street signs for the Park. Chamberlain said a few of the streets will be renamed to avoid confusion.

The Select Board approved a request from the Jaffrey VFW to have open seating, which will be a fenced in area outside the lounge area.

The board met with Park Theatre CEO Steve Jackson at the theater’s new visitor center to get an update on construction of the new theater. Jackson told the board that construction could start by June.
