Senior third baseman Erin Wood of the Franklin Pierce University softball team has been named to the Conference Commissioner’s Association All-East Region Second Team.
Wood enjoyed a breakout season as a senior, in which she established new program records for career home runs (18) and home runs in a season (9). While playing in 36 of the team’s 37 games, she hit .426/.457/.815 (46-for-108) with 15 doubles – also a program record – and nine home runs. Wood scored 19 runs, drove in a team-best 29, drew four walks, struck out 13 times and stole one base along the way. She currently ranks fourth in the nation in doubles per game (0.42) and 17th in slugging percentage. Within the Northeast-10, she ranks first in doubles, second in slugging percentage, tied for second in home runs, third in batting average, sixth in on-base percentage and tied for 10th in runs batted in.
Franklin Pierce finished the 2016 campaign with a 15-22 (10-13 Northeast-10, 9-12 Northeast Division) record, one win shy of the program record for wins in a season. The 9-12 mark in divisional play was good for a sixth-place finish.
