The Mascenic High girls’ volleyball team pulled out a statement win over previously unbeaten Portsmouth Christian Academy in New Ipswich Monday night.

Just three days after losing their first match of the season at Farmington, the Vikings beat the Eagles in five sets behind excellent play at the net from Lyla Somero (22 kills, five blocks, two assists) and Lia Rosnov (four kills, seven blocks).

Fiona Alix added 25 assists and seven digs, and Sadie Stevens had one kill, two aces and 10 digs. As of this reporting, Somero is leading Division III in kills with 139, and Alix is leading the division in assists with 218.

The win improved Mascenic to 8-1 and put the Vikings right back in the thick of things as one of five one-loss teams in NHIAA Division III, along with Farmington (9-1), St. Thomas (9-1), Portsmouth Christian (8-1) and Raymond (7-1).

The Vikings were set to host Concord Christian on Wednesday evening and then entertain Raymond on Friday.
