The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team held its own with No. 2 Le Moyne for the first half, but a second-half surge of 12-1 by the Dolphins left the Ravens trailing and unable to come back, as they fell in their season finale, 19-6.
With the loss, the Ravens end their season with a record of 8-8 overall and 5-8 in conference play. The team set a new program record for wins with eight on the season. Meanwhile, the Dolphins extended their record to 15-1 overall and move on in conference play with a record of 12-1.
The Dolphins were able to manufacture a 4-0 run to open the game, with freshman attack Bryanna Fazio scoring two of those goals. Sophomore midfielders Brianna Sweeney and Caitlin Sweeney put the Ravens on the board with a 3-0 run to make the score 4-3 with 15 minutes to play in the half.
Le Moyne fired back with a goal, but two more Ravens goals followed, and Brianna Sweeney had the equalizer, making it 5-5 at the 2:37 mark.
The Dolphins, adamant on not going into the half tied or trailing, regained the lead with two more goals to put them up, 7-5, at the half.
Ravens sophomore attack Anna Wilbert had the sole goal of the second half for Franklin Pierce.
Leading the Ravens were Brianna and Caitlin Sweeney with two goals each, while Wilbert had one. Caitlin Sweeney’s second goal marked the 100th point of her career, at the end of just her sophomore season. Brianna Sweeney had four ground balls on the day. As a team, the Ravens took 24 shots, snagged 12 ground balls, caused two turnovers and won nine draw controls.
Taking the loss in the cage was junior Denise Hunt who saw her record fall to 8-8.
