Music in Bass Hall welcomes back guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto for an evening that fuses jazz, folk and world music on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7:30 p.m.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, Tsukamoto began his musical career when he began playing the five-string banjo at the age of 13. Soon after, he took up the guitar and later received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. In Boston, he formed his own group, Interoceanico, a blend of musicians from different continents, including Grammy-award winning Columbian singer Marta Gomez. The group released three records showcasing Tsukamotoโs blending of world music traditions. Now, Tsukamoto performs solo and has recorded three albums, โSolo,โย โHeartlandโย and โPlaces.โ
Tsukamoto headlines concerts throughout the United Statesย as well as internationally, including The Blue Note in New York City, the United Nations, and on Japanese television. After a nearly two-year break from touring, Tsukamoto is returning to live music.
