Dublin’s Select Board is trying to find a way to revamp the town’s recreation committee.
During its Monday meeting, the Select Board spoke with former recreation committee member Jennifer Bergeron, who said she left the committee because she felt “burnt out.”
“If I’m being truthful, it didn’t feel like there was a lot of support [from the Select Board and town] in the last few years,” said Bergeron.
Bergeron said that she loved her service to the town and recommended that the town continue to advertise for volunteers to come forward.
Select Board chair Walter Snitko said the town should increase the recreation committee budget this year in an effort to show residents that the town is committed to bringing back the committee. This year, $2,552 was appropriated in the parks and recreation budget, down from 2015’s budget of $9,400.
Currently there are no members on the recreation committee, but select board members said there is interest in the town.
The board unanimously put its support behind a number of warrant articles that will be on the ballot in March 2016 including: $60,316 for a new one-ton for the highway department; $7,600 for a cyclone blower for the highway department; $4,000 for the Dublin Advocate; an amount to be announced for health agencies; $60,000 for the heavy highway equipment capital reserve; $13,000 for the police cruiser capital reserve; $80,000 for the fire equipment capital reserve account; $45,000 for the road construction and bridge repair capital reserve accounts; $35,000 for the town buildings maintenance capital reserve account; and $5,000 for the library capital reserve account.
The board is waiting for more information before voting on a few other warrant articles: $20,000 for a maintenance building for the cemetery; an amount to be determined for a wi-fi study; $5,000 for repairs to the Hearse House; and $7,698 for surveillance cameras at the transfer station.
The Select Board held a swearing in ceremony for newly named Sergeant Jeremy Jeffers.
Police Chief Tim Suokko told the board that both speed signs are operational again.
