With the school year starting this week, we would like to share several important updates and accomplishments from the summer months. While our students have been enjoying a well-deserved break, many members of our school community have been hard at work preparing for another successful school year.
Our facilities crew has been busy preparing the building for the return of students and staff. In addition to the standard summer cleaning, scrubbing, and waxing, several important improvements have been completed or are nearing completion:
- One water fountain/bottle filler was repaired, and a new one was installed.
- Hallway flooring in the middle school, high school wing, and UA hallway was replaced.
- New carpeting was installed in the library and front office.
- The locker rooms were painted, along with door frames and other areas throughout the school requiring touch-ups.
- Stucco around the building was repaired and painted.
- A new sound system was installed in the gymnasium.
Learning did not stop when the school year ended. Middle school students were given the opportunity to make up missing competencies through summer learning programs offered by Kinley Sullivan and Melissa Norton.
Students entering grades 1-12 also had the opportunity to participate in our Summer Theater Program, led by Taryn Anderson and Morgan Kudlich. Students spent a week learning about theater, traveled to the Palace Theatre in Manchester to see a performance, and concluded the program by presenting their own performance.
Several staff members continued their professional learning throughout the summer:
- Becky McGrath and Kinley Sullivan attended OpenSciEd training to strengthen their understanding of phenomenon-based science instruction.
- Megan McLaughlin attended Responsive Classroom training to support students at their respective grade levels.
- Nate Trask attended Jostens Advisor University to learn more about creating a high-quality yearbook and identifying ways to offset costs.
- Kira Brewster worked collaboratively and independently to ensure our Title I programming is aligned across buildings, maintain compliance with records retention requirements, improve data tracking, and review student data to identify participants for our September “Spring into Fall” after-school tutoring program.
Staff also dedicated time to reviewing and improving curriculum:
- Katy Morshed and Tommy Coyle revised our middle and high school health curriculum.
- Tyler Kiliulis revised our Algebra 2 curriculum.
- As she transitions to high school this year, Melissa Norton worked on the 10th-grade American Literature and Holocaust & Genocide Studies curricula.
Free and reduced-price meals
We encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. Qualifying for this program can help families save money on the cost of school meals and may provide additional benefits for students, families and WLC.

We are excited to welcome our students back and begin another school year together. Our staff is looking forward to supporting every student as they strive to achieve their academic best.
