Rindge, NH – Lawrence T. (Larry) Harris, Jr. of Rindge, NH, passed away on August 6, 2026, following a long illness. He was 89 years old. He was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts on March 23, 1937. He was the son of Lawrence Harris, Sr. and Margaret Hildreth Harris. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Raymond Harris, Charles Harris and William Harris. Larry is survived by his wife Judith Harris, his three step-children Patti Wheeler of Marlborough, NH, Robert Martin of Strafford, NH, David Martin of Rindge, NH, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Martha Harris of Winchendon, Massachusetts and Diane Harris of Keene NH, Richard Evans of Oregon, Jeffrey and Geraldine Ide of N. Walpole, NH, Sidney and Cindy Hastings of Florida, many nieces and nephews and extended family that meant so much to him.
Larry, at a young age, worked on the family farm alongside his father. He worked at the Hampshire Country School for several years, and drove a tractor-trailer for Reds in Jaffrey, NH.
Larry devoted his whole life to serving the Town of Rindge and its residents. Early in his career, he was on the Rindge Fire Department for 7 years. He then switched to the Rindge Police Department and was sworn in as a “Special Police Officer” for former Police Chief Ernie Gooddall and was given Animal Control Officer responsibilities. He served as the Town Constable for 17 years and held the position of Animal Control Officer for over 64 years. when he retired in 2024, he was bestowed with the Honorary Lifetime Title of Animal Control Officer.
Larry was Rindge’s longest-serving town employee. In addition to his duties and responsibilities, Larry had appeared at nearly every town event and donated his time to numerous efforts. He responded from home at all hours of the day and night, assisted with traffic control on accident scenes, removed trash after town events, shoveled and plowed driveways, checked buildings, and so much more. He was a daily fixture at the Rindge Police Department. His dedication and loyalty to this Town and its residents was second to none. So thank you, Larry, for all you have done, you were an example for us all.
Larry was friend to all and will be greatly missed with his great smile. Services will be held at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH, on Sept. 3, 2026 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private at the discretion of the family.
