The town of Lyndeborough held a dedication ceremony for the Revolutionary War Monument at Memorial Park on Saturday.
Peterborough Marble & Granite LLC installed Lyndeborough’s Revolutionary War Monument on Wednesday morning at Memorial Park in preparation for its dedication celebrating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
Crafted from Barre granite in the company’s Peterborough workshop, the monument consists of three large stone sections and four engraved plaques, which workers assembled on-site.
Brig. Gen. Allen Alderberg, assistant adjutant general of the New Hampshire Army National Guard, served as guest speaker for the ceremony. A community supper at Citizen’s Hall followed the event.
The weekend’s festivities continued Sunday at Center Hall with a silent auction, live music, food vendors, games, magic performances, a hamburger lunch, a steak dinner, and an open mic. The Lafayette Artillery Company hosted an evening flag retirement ceremony and fired its 1844 six-pound cannon.
The Kaufhold family has owned and operated Peterborough Marble & Granite since 1849. After setting the new monument, family members visited South Cemetery to view the town’s Civil War Monument, which their ancestors designed and installed in 1879.
