Vote like it’s 2028
“The 2026 election is the 2028 election.”
It’s true. The stakes in November’s elections couldn’t be higher. They will determine who controls Congress, whether the U.S. will regain respect from our NATO allies, and if our system of checks and balances will survive.
And yet, Trump spent his July 16 prime time address signaling his intentions to further suppress the vote, to undertake actual cheating, and to continue harping on his “Big Lie” of winning the 2020 election. [Can we now agree to call it the Ginormous Lie?]
Trump issued an executive order in March restricting mail-in voting. Last week he begged the Supreme Court to uphold this order; a ruling due Aug. 3. Mail-in voting is easy, efficient and without fraud.
Trump is well aware that his polling numbers have tanked. The only way his people can win is for him to suppress the vote.
Come November, who would be surprised if Trump orders actual federal troops into our polling places to intimidate both poll workers and voters. Maybe they’ll find a need to confiscate a box of ballots.
Can you imagine Marge staffing the registration table in New Ipswich, or Florence in Hancock keeping an eye on the ballot boxes when in marches the National Guard or a masked ICE agent?
We can’t know Trump’s next desperate move, only there will be one.
Make sure you are registered to vote. Talk to your family and friends and, if they aren’t, give them information found here: https://lwvnh.org/
Volunteer to help with voter registration drives. Run your own. Offer to help those who might have trouble getting to the polls on voting day.
