Professor Michael Brownstein will speak on social change and addressing global challenges on July 26 as part of the Monadnock Summer Lyceum series at the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church.
Brownstein’s presentation, titled “Somebody Should Do Something,” begins at 11 a.m. Drawing on philosophy, history, and social science, he will explore how individuals can make a difference in the face of complex issues such as climate change, misinformation, and threats to democracy.
Brownstein serves as chair of the philosophy department at John Jay College in New York. He is a co-author of the 2025 MIT Press book, “Somebody Should Do Something: How Anyone Can Help Create Social Change,” and has held visiting scholar positions at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
Musicians Eric Blackmer, David Duhon, Chaz Beaulieu, and Lisa Murron of the Grove Street Band will perform acoustic music beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Dr. Lundy Lewis, a professor at Southern New Hampshire University and ethics chair specializing in artificial intelligence and digital music, will moderate the event.
