Volunteer NH has received $3.16 million in federal funding from AmeriCorps to expand its statewide community service programs, the organization announced Tuesday.
The grant, awarded by the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, will support more than 120 AmeriCorps members serving across New Hampshire. These members will work with local organizations, including City Year New Hampshire, Lakes Region Conservation Corps, Manchester Excels and the SCA-New Hampshire Conservation Corps.
Additionally, the nonprofit Archways will receive a portion of the funding through a planning grant focused on housing resource supports.
Volunteer NH, which has operated as the state’s designated State Service Commission for more than 25 years, will use the funds to recruit, train and supervise members tackling local challenges in education, environmental stewardship and economic opportunity.
AmeriCorps members participate in intensive service roles each year, receiving a modest living allowance, health care and childcare. Upon completing their service terms, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to help repay student loans or cover current educational expenses.
