A Wilton man was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to animals on July 2.
In addition to the animal cruelty charge, Jonathan Briere was charged with violating bail conditions and having an unregistered dog. Police said he kicked his puppy.
Briere is being held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections until his case is heard in district court later this month, and will eventually be transferred to superior court, according to Wilton Police Chief John Frenchette.
The dog was treated at Wilton Animal Hospital and will stay with the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire until it is surrendered to the state at the court hearing. Frenchette said once the dog is surrendered, it can be put up for adoption.
The Wilton Police Department was informed of the abuse by a worker doing house maintenance on a neighboring residence on Forest Road.
Frenchette said the puppy had experienced “minor bruising.”
