The 1833 Society has received a $10,000 anonymous donation to benefit the Peterborough Town Library endowment.
The contribution aims to help rebuild the library’s trust funds, which were largely depleted to fund a major building renovation in 2021. The 1833 Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the library, is working alongside library trustees to restore the endowment to secure the facility’s long-term future.
“The special thing about Peterborough Library is that from its inception it was a partnership between the town and private benefactors,” said Library Director Corinne Chronopoulos. “The town continues to support operating costs, while the 1833 Society plans for bigger projects and building updates in the future.”
Chronopoulos added that the donor contributed due to a strong belief in the library’s mission of offering a welcoming space that connects community members with resources to succeed.
