Zenith Ensemble will present Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610” on Saturday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Bernard Church, 185 Main St., Keene.

The performance marks the return of Artistic Director Dr. Matthew Leese from New Zealand to conduct the ensemble. The production will feature professional musicians, community singers and period instruments in a historically informed interpretation of Monteverdi’s sacred masterwork.

Composed during the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era, “Vespers of 1610” combines choral, solo and instrumental music and is widely regarded as one of the most important sacred compositions in Western music.

The concert will feature early music specialists from across the United States, including concertmaster Marika Holmqvist, who will lead an instrumental ensemble performing on period instruments such as the cornetto, sackbut and theorbo.

The vocal ensemble will include professional singers, a Zenith student scholar and an auditioned choir of local musicians performing in the acoustics of St. Bernard Church.

Reserved seating is available, and organizers encourage patrons to purchase tickets in advance.
