ConVal and Conant remain alive in postseason play as local teams continue their pursuit of state championships.

Softball

Chloe Hamlin delivered a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, lifting ConVal to a 3-2 victory over Souhegan in the first round of the Division II softball playoffs.

In a tightly contested game dominated by pitching, the Cougars broke through in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before adding another run in the fifth. Souhegan answered in the sixth, stringing together two hits to score twice and tie the game at 2-2.

After the Sabers left a runner on base in the top of the seventh, ConVal mounted a rally in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and two outs, Hamlin hit a hard single to drive in the winning run from third base.

ConVal finished with five hits. Mae Hagelberg led the offense with two singles, while Annabelle added a double. Hamlin and Sienna MacKay each contributed a single.

Sydney Borges earned the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She struck out 15 batters and allowed four hits.

With the victory, ConVal advances to the quarterfinal round and will host Campbell on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Baseball

ConVal and Conant advanced in the opening round of the NHIAA softball and baseball tournaments Wednesday, earning spots in the quarterfinals.

In Division II baseball, sixth-seeded ConVal edged No. 11 Kennett 5-4 on a walk-off play in the seventh inning.

In Division III baseball, Conant defeated Campbell to secure a quarterfinal matchup with rival Monadnock. Details from the game were not immediately available.
