Peterboroughโs annual Earth Day roadside litter pick-up will run from Saturday, April 18, through Wednesday, April 22, offering residents several ways to participate.
Volunteers can pick up designated blue bags provided by the state at the Town Library, Recycling Center during operating hours, and the Town House, which is closed Fridays. Residents are encouraged to clean up roadside frontage to support volunteers who maintain assigned stretches of road throughout the year.
The townโs Highway Department will collect filled blue bags along town roads on April 23, while state crews will handle pickups along state roads. Officials ask participants to cluster bags to make collection more efficient.
About 50 residents and groups โ including the ConVal Interact Club, Kiwanis, Rotary, RiverMead, Ball Bearing, Peterborough Democrats, the Well School and Scott-Farrar โ participate annually by adopting sections of roadway.
Those interested in volunteering can contact the Conservation Commission at 603-547-7978 to join a team or sign up for unassigned portions of the townโs roughly 90 miles of roads.
Residents unable to take part during the official dates may still drop off filled blue bags at the recycling center without separating recyclables.
Organizers remind participants to prioritize safety by wearing gloves and bright clothing, such as hunter orange, and remaining alert to traffic.
