A 21-year-old employee of Apollo Steel was airlifted from the site after being injured by a steel beam on Tuesday.
According to Jaffrey Police Chief Chris LaBrecque, at about 1:10 p.m., Jaffrey Police and Fire Department, the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, the Peterborough Fire Department and Peterborough Ambulance responded to a report of a 21-year-old woman who had been injured by a beam falling on her at Apollo Steel, located at 35 Maria Dr. in Jaffrey.
According to Jaffrey Fire Chief David Chamberlain, when crews arrived, coworkers had already removed the beam which had struck the woman in the torso. The woman was conscious, alert and aware throughout the response, said Chamberlain.
LaBrecque said the woman was loaded onto the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance for preparation, and a medical flight was called. The UMass Life Flight medical helicopter landed adjacent to Apollo Steel, and the woman was flown to UMass Worcester for treatment for serious bodily injuries, according to LaBrecque. LaBrecque did not have an update on the status of the woman’s injuries on Wednesday.
The scene was cleared at 2:15 p.m.
