The Monadnock Center for History & Culture will host MacDowell artist Dahlak Brathwaite on Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of theatre, music, and spoken word.
Brathwaite, a writer, composer, and performer rooted in hip-hop and storytelling traditions, will present excerpts from his solo work along with archival footage from past performances. His work explores identity, language, and human connection through a blend of lyrical and theatrical expression.
He first gained national recognition on Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry Jam and has since performed at venues including The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and The Apollo Theater. His solo play Spiritrials has toured nationally since 2015, and his work also includes film scores, hip-hop albums, and the upcoming film Adapting History.
The program is free and open to the public. Advance registration is encouraged.
