Stop ignoring our energy crisis solution
Every month I’m surprised to see how high our energy bill is with how little energy we use. Our state is trying to bring data centers and cryptomining facilities here while we’re drowning in electric bills. It’s especially frustrating because the same people paving the way for this are the ones standing in the way of the solution to high energy costs: renewable energy like solar and wind. Prices are only going up if we continue down this path. So why are Gov. Ayotte and her party against renewable energy?
The recent storm put strain on New England’s energy grid, so we’re leaning on expensive and damaging fossil fuel use to meet the demand. What if we had moved forward with offshore wind years ago? The increased wind speed would have yielded more energy and kept prices down.
While New Hampshire residents are getting hit with larger utility bills, the Republican Party is supporting bills that eliminate solar incentives, increase utility profits, and support fossil fuels. They’ve been so worried about not “Massing Up New Hampshire” that they’re actively harming our state. Why is clean, renewable energy a partisan issue when it would bring jobs, reduce prices, and benefit our environment?
If you’re wondering why your energy bill is so high, you should ask your representative where they stand on renewable energy. The Republican Party is quick to lower taxes, place registration fees on bikes, and fund private school vouchers. Why aren’t they taking the same approach to reasonable legislation, like supporting renewable energy incentives or offshore wind opportunities?
Keep an eye on the legislators in your district come this midterm election, and let them know you’re in support of renewable energy.
