Residents can learn about recycling rigid Styrofoam and reducing single-use plastics at a public presentation on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dublin Community Center, 1123 Main St.
Meghan Theriault, director of public works in Gilford, will discuss how and where rigid Styrofoam can be recycled in New Hampshire and what materials are accepted. Gilford is currently the only municipality in the state with a Styrofoam densifier, equipment that compresses the material into ingots that can be sold and reused. Twenty-seven towns currently transport their Styrofoam to Gilford for processing.
The program is hosted by Dublinโs Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee, which is working to expand access to Styrofoam recycling in the region. A discussion on reducing single-use plastics will follow the presentation. The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
In addition, Dublin residents will be able to bring rigid Styrofoam to the town transfer station on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The material will be collected and transported to Gilford for recycling.
