Three people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night on Route 119 in Rindge, prompting a large mutual aid response after local crews were tied up on another call.
Rindge Fire and Rindge Rescue were dispatched at 7:40 p.m. to the area of 145 Route 119 for a report of a two-car crash with multiple injuries. Responders found one vehicle off the road, crashed into a tree. All three occupants were out of the vehicle when EMS arrived, including one who had been ejected, according to Rindge Fire.
A LifeFlight helicopter was initially requested but could not respond due to the weather. All patients were taken by ground ambulance to Massachusetts hospitals. Two suffered serious but nonโlife-threatening injuries and were transported to a Level I trauma center in Worcester. The third was taken to a Leominster hospital with minor injuries.
Route 119 was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes while crews worked at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Rindge Police.
The incident drew mutual aid from Jaffrey, Fitzwilliam, Winchendon, Ashburnham and Ashby, along with off-duty Rindge personnel. An engine from Peterborough was briefly dispatched to establish a landing zone before the helicopter was canceled.
