โ€œNavigating U.S.-China Relations in Tense Timesโ€ will be the topic of the next Great Decisions forum at the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m.

Following a video overview of the history of U.S.-China relations and current challenges, moderators with international experience will lead a discussion and analysis.

Moderators are Peter Henriques, who lived and worked in Asia and on five other continents during a 40-year career in international business, and Robert Beck, who served in 11 countries during a career in the U.S. foreign policy sector. Beck also writes a monthly column for the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript. Both Henriques and Beck teach in lifelong learning programs at Keene State College and Rivier University.

โ€œHow this centuryโ€™s two superpowers, China and America, pursue their economic, military, and political interests will have far-reaching consequences for the rest of the world,โ€ Henriques said. โ€œWill we have cooperation, competition, a new cold war or conflict?โ€

Writing in Great Decisions Magazine 2025, Thomas J. Christensen, director of the China and the World Program at Columbia University, asks whether the United States should decouple economically from China, upgrade its unofficial relationship with Taiwan, or engage diplomatically to influence Beijingโ€™s leadership.

The magazine is available at the Peterborough Town Library.

Great Decisions programs at the Mariposa Museum, 26 Main St., are free, and donations are welcome. The final 2025 forum on Dec. 11 will focus on โ€œThe Future of American Foreign Policy.โ€
