A Peterborough woman was hospitalized Wednesday after being struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Wilton Road (Route 101) and Grove Street (Route 202).

Peterborough Police and Fire & Rescue responded at about 4:55 p.m. and found a 2004 Chevrolet 2500HD pickup truck in the center of the intersection. The pedestrian, identified as Nancy Salmon, 79, of Peterborough, was unresponsive and exhibiting agonal breathing.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements indicated the truck, driven by Colin Gatlin, 22, of Hillsborough, was traveling westbound on Wilton Road and making a left turn onto Grove Street southbound with a green light when it struck Salmon, who was in the roadway.

First responders immediately began life-saving measures, and Salmon was transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester. As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, she was reported in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation by Peterborough police.


Deer causes accident Wednesday night

At about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, a driver swerving to avoid a deer left the road, rolled, and struck a utility pole after crossing the northbound lane of Route 202 near the Peterborough – Hancock town line.

Police said the driver, Zachary Arruda, 23, of Jaffrey, was not injured. He was the sole occupant of the 2019 Toyota SUV, which was towed from the scene.

Eversource crews responded and replaced the damaged pole.
