Public and Home Schooling

I had an interesting conversation with a state representative last evening. He said children are being kept home to be educated by their mothers because our public school system is not doing a good job.

When I responded that most women have to work for families to have enough income, he just looked at me.

Needing only a father’s income and leaning heavily upon the church is not how many families are surviving. Taking money for home schooling, charter schools and private schools is not helping our public school system function. I know one girl who was taken out of our school system for a semester because sex education class was being taught. She came back after that semester.

Teaching true history should not offend any parent as we want our children to be knowledgeable. Whether in schools or libraries, parents can refuse their child reading books pushing for non-traditional relationships. They are out there but we do not have to devour them.

He is not my state representative and follows the principle of family, community and church as he stated. I thank him for being family and community-oriented. We cannot let the leadership of churches cease our public education system. It is the responsibility of us as parents and community members to not let infringements in education like not teaching real history warp our student’s young minds.

Our economy does not allow many parents to have the option to stay home and educate their child(ren). My own daughter had asked to be home schooled and I had to tell her I needed to work. Each parent needs to push our schools to teach in non-offensive ways for our children to have the best education they can achieve.
