The Bennington Conservation Commission invites the public to “Forestry 101 โ€“ Managing Our Forests for the Present and Future” on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bennington Train Depot. The program will be led by Michael Gagnon, UNH Cooperative Extension County Forester for Hillsborough County.

Gagnon will discuss silvicultureโ€”the art and science of producing and tending a forestโ€”and how sound forest stewardship can achieve diverse goals such as timber production, habitat management, forest resiliency, aesthetics, recreation, carbon storage and water protection. He will share practical approaches for landowners and communities to care for New Hampshireโ€™s forests, wildlife and habitats while meeting their own goals.

With a career dedicated to sustainable forestry, Gagnon works with private landowners and communities throughout Hillsborough County. His expertise also includes controlling upland invasive vegetation and improving forest health. He is a licensed forester with a NH Supervisory Pesticide License and holds degrees in forest technology, forest science, and natural resources and forestry from the University of New Hampshire.

This free program is open to all Monadnock region residents.
