Housing bills miss mark
Your recent article described the new housing bills as progress toward affordable housing. In reality, these changes take away local control of land use while doing little to ensure that families in need will actually find affordable homes.
The Legislature has opened more land for development, eased codes and reduced local oversight. That may make it easier for developers, but it does not guarantee affordability. More often, it simply means more land developed for profit while towns lose their ability to guide growth in ways that fit their character and needs.
If lawmakers are truly committed to affordable housing, they should work with communities, not override them. So far, these laws benefit developers first and leave Granite Staters with fewer choices and less control.
