Local artist and author-illustrator Marty Kelley will give an artist talk at the Peterborough Town Library on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. in the Community Art Gallery.
Kelleyโs portraits, which have been on display since early August, will remain on view through Sept. 26. A reception will take place Friday, Sept. 5, from 5-7 p.m.
Best known for his childrenโs books, Kelleyโs exhibit showcases his detailed pencil and watercolor portraits, offering a different perspective on his artistic range. Some viewers have mistaken his highly realistic portraits for photographs. During the talk, Kelley will share his creative process, present photos of works in progress and answer questions.
Kelley has spent 25 years working as a full-time childrenโs book author and illustrator, while also creating realistic portraits and abstract sculptures in stone, metal and wood. He says working in these contrasting mediums informs and inspires his approach to art.
