With the median rent for a two-bedroom apartment exceeding $1,700 a month, many Monadnock region families are forced into homelessness. What can we do to help our neighbors find permanent housing?
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript and Monadnock Center will host a Community Conversation on homelessness — its causes, challenges and the steps we can take as a community to support our unhoused neighbors.
The “conversation starters” will be as follows:
– Cari Coates – McKinney-Vento homeless liaison for the ConVal School District.
– Susan Howard – program director of the Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter and chair of Peterborough’s Affordable Housing Committee.
– Amanda Carter – kinship navigator/community resource specialist and advocate at The River Center.
Each will speak for three to five minutes, and the remainder of the hour will be devoted to questions and comments from the audience.
