After the Peterborough police department dispatcher received multiple calls from citizens about a duck or goose that appeared to be tangled in fishing line and was in distress Sunday afternoon, Detective Sophia Reichl, working a patrol shift, responded to the Edward MacDowell Dam.

Reichl crossed the portion of the reservoir, where she located a double-crested cormorant that had been trapped in a fishing line. Reichl was able to successfully free the bird, which was then able to reunite with its flock.
