Thank You, Nelson

Thank you to the community of Nelson.

On August 9, 2025, Nelson held its 147th annual Old Home Days Celebration. In addition to the traditional races and games and barbecue, this year the community supported an initiative aimed at providing school children with meals on the weekends for the approximately 68 hours between school lunch on Friday and breakfast on Monday. This public nonprofit program is called End 68 Hours of Hunger and Nelson has a new chapter. Ninety-five percent of donations go directly to providing food for children.

At Nelsonโ€™s Old Home Days, a table was set out with empty lunch bags. The bags had an information flyer stapled to a list of suggested foods needed. Volunteers were present to explain the program.

Thank you to the many community members who took bags and donated money and or food. And thank you to the people who have been filling bags with nutritious child friendly food and dropping them off.

Food donations of canned or packaged foods are gratefully accepted at the Chapel By The Lake, 529 Granite Lake Road, Munsonville. The Chapel By the Lake and its warm, supportive congregation have been gracious enough to offer the use of their building for the storage and distribution of food. We are thankful to them.
