Nearly 250 people attended Peterborough’s first Pet Gala on Saturday, August 23 in Depot Square park. Twenty local pets walked the red carpet, including dogs, cats, birds and a Rex rabbit named Snoopy, who belongs to Claudia Dery.
Trooper, a one-eyed Shih Tzu who belongs to Nancy Weil won Best Pet. Marcel, a Labrador mixed breed dog, accompanied by his human Dan Krason, was runner up. Both animals are Peterborough residents.
Judges were Helen Fairman of the Dog Park Committee, Amber Hall and Amber Rochette from Private Roots Veterinary and Sandra Boutwell of Wag-Inn Boarding.
“This event was such a big success that we are looking forward to doing it again next year,” said Trisha Cheever, Energy & Community Planner for the Town of Peterborough.
One familiar face in the parade was Savannah Jo Guyette, an 8-year-old beagle red heeler mix who serves as “Deputy Town Clerk of Peterborough” for her owner, Town Clerk Linda Guyette. Savannah Jo, also known as “Puddin’ Pop” is seen frequently in the Town Hall, at the bank, and around town on official business.
