Karen Madigan, director of Dublin Public Library, has been recognized by the American Library Association and author James Patterson for her contributions to library service. The honor celebrates the release of Patterson’s nonfiction book “The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians.”

Madigan, who joined the library in December after moving from Cheyenne, Wyo., has more than 30 years of librarian experience. She was selected from 200 ALA members, with her nomination submitted by her staff of three library assistants.

Since her arrival, library attendance has increased 600%, items borrowed are up 28% and cardholders have risen 26%. Changes include reorganization of the collection and the introduction of new programs.

A celebration, funded by the accompanying monetary award, is being planned.
