Dublin Community Center, 1123 Main St. in Dublin, will host a coffee house and open mic Saturday, June 17, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Sweet and savory snacks are available, and a monthly sponsor provides the coffee. This month’s sponsor is Terra Nova Coffee out of Keene. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own beverages. The featured performance, Folksoul Duo, will take 45 to 60 minutes, with open mic slots available prior.
Folksoul Duo members Fred Simmons and Leslie Vogel began playing music together when they met in the music department at Bard College in New York. Their ensemble professor asked them to play a trombone and piano duet as their class project, and their musical partnership, as well as their eventual marriage, has endured ever since.
The pair has produced music via various projects, including their band Tattoo (comprehensive American roots acoustic dance music), the Folksoul Band (acoustic music rooted in the New Orleans legacy) and the Folksoul Ensemble (American roots acoustic listening music).
As Folksoul Duo, Simmons and Vogel draw on their repertoire of American roots music of all kinds, including lyrical folk, familiar oldies, 1930s jazz, new originals and songs that might not fit into a larger band setting.
Send email to info@dublincommunitycenter.org to reserve a spot on the open mic signup, or show up and see if there is an available spot on the list. There will be a $5 suggested donation at the door to offset costs to the DubHub, and a hat will be passed for contributions going toward the featured performers.
