The Peterborough Seed Library Committee, in collaboration with the Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., Peterborough, has formed the Peterborough community seed library. A turnstile display containing seed packets is located on the main floor of the library across from the checkout desk. Each packet provides a handful of seeds and includes instructions, such as spacing, days until germination and planting depth. The public is invited to choose up to five seed packets for home gardens.
Much like a traditional library, a seed library offers packets of seeds to gardeners to “borrow” during the planting season, then learn how to save seeds from the resulting plants for the next year. Seeds currently available include peas, cucumbers, peppers, various herbs, tomatoes and zucchini, with flower seeds coming soon.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Peterborough Community Seed Library. For information: peterboroughtownlibrary.org/seedlibrary-10876/location/peterborough.
