Music in Bass Hall will present a special Mother’s Day concert, “O Maria! Mother and Warrior” with La Donna Musicale, on Saturday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Monadnock Center for History and Culture’s main building at 19 Grove St. in Peterborough.
The concert explores the works of Italian Baroque women composers, and features their settings of prayers to the Virgin, a Stabat Mater, and a dialogue between Mary and Eve. It also includes a motet for two voices that illustrates the martyrdom and invincibility of St. Christina. Vocal music will be interspersed with instrumental music by Isabella Leonarda and others.
The composers featured in the show include Francesca Caccini, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Isabella Leonarda, Maria XavieraPeruchona and LucreziaVizzana.
The La Donna Musicale performers are soprano Adriana Ruiz, mezzo-soprana Daniela Tosic, Baroque violinist Julia Connor, Katherine Shao on piano and LauryGutiérrez on viola da gamba.
