No one was injured in a fire that spread to two buildings Friday evening, but Jaffrey Fire Chief David Chamberlain said, “Both buildings are probably a total loss.”

According to Chamberlain, the department received a call at about 5:25 p.m. for a shed on Nutting Road. When firefighters arrived at the scene, a one-story garage with a small attic a few feet away on North Street was also burning, and they upgraded the response to a second alarm.

Chamberlain said there were some personal items in the North Street building, along with a antique car in the shed on Nutting Road. Bystanders broke the lock to the shed and rolled the car out before flames could get inside, Chamberlain said.

An apartment building nearby sustained damage, but only to exterior siding, and Chamberlain said the residents all got outside.

“Nobody was hurt or displaced,” he said.

Chamberlain said the fire was under control at about 6:45 p.m. Firefighters from Peterborough, Rindge, Dublin, New Ipswich, Greenville, Keene, Fitzwilliam and Winchendon, Mass., assisted on the scene. Troy covered the Jaffrey fire station.
