Peterborough Fire & Rescue units responded to a fire Tuesday evening in a vacant house on Grove Street, across from Alltown, and a brush fire on Wednesday.
The vacant house had previously been badly damaged by a fire in November 2022.
Fire Chief Ed Walker said firefighters were dispatched at 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
“When we arrived, we found that there was a fire in the rear of the breezeway. We were able to extinguish and overhaul the fire in about 20 minutes and were able to clear the scene shortly after that,” said Walker.
Walker said they do not know the cause of the fire, “however, since the building is vacant with no power, the fire is classified as suspicious.”
On Wednesday, a brush fire burned about two acres adjacent to Route 202. Walker said the fire was started when a tree that snapped in the wind fell across primary wires and ignited foliage. He said the dry conditions and high winds caused the blaze to spread quickly.
“Due to the proximity to the road, Route 202 was shut down until all the fire units were clear of the scene,” Walker said, which was just after 2 p.m.
Peterborough Fire and Rescue received mutual aid for the brush fire from Jaffrey, Hancock, Dublin, Greenfield, Antrim, Francestown, and Bennington while New Ipswich covered the station.
